About The Glenlivet Single Cask Pullman Club Car Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Glenlivet Pullman collection pays homage to the history and sophisticated style of Pullman trains, which were the epitome of luxury travel in early 20th century America. In the 1930s, after the end of Prohibition, the last distilling descendant of The Glenlivet’s founder George Smith, Captain Bill Smith Grant, travelled to New York to secure The Glenlivet as the exclusive scotch whisky served in the Pullman dining cars thus spreading his whisky’s fame throughout the U.S.

The Glenlivet is universally recognized for its single malt scotch whisky - to receive the title of “single malt,” a whisky must be produced in a single season by a single distillery. One step beyond single malt, The Pullman Collection represents the first time that The Glenlivet has made scotch from a single cask available the U.S.

The Glenlivet Pullman Club Car Single Cask, Single Malt Scotch Whisky was aged in a single ex-sherry cask filled in 1998. Initial sweet notes of pears and peaches on the nose followed by a hint of spicy chocolate. The palate is creamy and sweet with accents of orange, nuts and cinnamon. The finish is long and tangy.

About The Glenlivet

During the early 19th century, illegal distilleries were commonplace throughout the Speyside region of Scotland. In 1823, however, Alexander Gordon pushed the Excise Act of 1823 through Parliament. The Excise Act allowed illegal distillers throughout Scotland to apply for and obtain licenses to legally distill spirits. In 1824, a businessman named George Smith applied for one of the first licenses in the Speyside region of Scotland and opened the doors to The Glenlivet Distillery. For nearly two centuries, The Glenlivet Distillery has been producing the “single malt whi sky that started it all.”

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

The Macallan 42 Year Old 1969 Duncan Taylor Rarest Single Malt Scotch Whisky

About The Macallan 42 Year Old 1969 Duncan Taylor Rarest Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated on a ridge above the banks of the River Spey, the Easter Elchies House has been the spiritual home of The Macallan for over two centuries. In 1820, Alexander Reid began renting the home from Sir Lewis Grant of Grant. Reid was a farmer, and soon after he sowed the fields surrounding the home with barley, Reid established the first licensed distillery on the estate, which he named Macallan after an ancient church that had been destroyed by fire during the 15th century. In the winter — when there was little activity on the farm — Reid would ferment and distill his excess grains into whisky, which was often drunk straight from the still or sold to travelers passing through the town.

Today, the Macallan Estate encompasses 370 acres, 95 of which are devoted to the production of The Macallan Estate's Minstrel barley (a single acre produces about 2.5 tons of barley each year, enough to yield 1,800 bottles of The Macallan). In addition, the distillery contracts with farmers to purchase barley that is low in nitrogen and high in starch, resulting in a rich and oily whisky.

After the barley is harvested in late August and early September, it is malted before being mashed in one of The Macallan's two mash tuns, a process that takes between four and eight hours. Then, the barley is fermented with a specially cultured yeast before being distilled twice through copper-pot stills. The copper comprising the stills acts as a catalyst, and enhances the formation of sweet esters while minimizing impurities such as sulphur. In addition, the curiously small stills — some of "the smallest stills within the Scotch whisky industry," according to production manager Alexander Tweedie — produce a whisky with a heavy, oily flavor.

Following distillation, The Macallan distillers remove the heads and tails of the whisky and collect approximately 16% of the spirit to fill into casks for maturation. This "cut," which is among the highest of any Scottish distillery, results in a more full-bodied and and rich whisky.

Bottled by Duncan Taylor (an independent, family-run bottler that has been named “Independent Bottler of the Year” by Whisky Magazine), Macallan 42 Year Old Rarest Single Malt Sc otch Whisky (Duncan Taylor Bottling) was originally distilled on September 10th, 1969, and subsequently bottled on January 24th, 2012 from Cask 6860. Set in a magnificent crystal decanter, the whisky’s fruity aromas of blood orange, peach and dark cherries lead to an exquisite, oily palate complete with delicate oak, star fruit, chocolate and pomegranate seeds. The finish is filled with a lush creaminess, with hints of wet grass and pralines.

Booker’s Maw Maw’s Small Batch Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey

About Booker's Maw Maw's Small Batch Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey

Following the end of the American Revolutionary War, Johannes Reginald Beam emigrated from Germany to the United States, and eventually settled in Kentucky County. At the time, Kentucky County was still considered part of Virginia, and was overseen by a military governor named John J. Bowman. After settling in Kentucky, Beam began harvesting corn and set forth a family tradition by distilling the excess grains he harvested into whiskey. Since then, seven generations of the Beam family have been involved in whiskey production for the eponymous company (the company is actually named after James Beam, who rescued it following Prohibition).

The Booker’s brand of bourbon is named in honor of Booker Noe, the grandson of Jim Beam. Made from a mash of primarily corn, the bourbon was initially bottled by Noe to be used as gifts for close friends and family. Today, the bourbon is matured in virgin American oak casks that are situated in the center of a Kentucky rickhouse, where the temperature and humidity are the most favorable for maturing whiskey.

Booker’s “Maw Maw’s Batch” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a special tribute to Booker’s grandmother, whom he affectionately called “Maw Maw.” After living at Maw Maw’s house in Bardstown, KY during high school, Booker eventually moved next door when he returned from college. It was while living next door that Booker created the iconic recipe that his namesake bourbon is known for today.

Aged exactly six years, seven months and three days, Booker’s “Maw Maw’s Batch” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has a rich aroma of vanilla cake and pralines, which leads to a palate filled with toasted nuts, oak and corn pudding. The finish is long and warming, with subtle hints of orange marmalade.

Booker's earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and earned a score of 90-95 points from Wine Enthusiast. "This is bourbon the way it used to be. The way it was meant to be," says Booker. Pick up a bottle of this special batch today!

About Booker's

Jim Beam's grandson Booker Noe couldn't wait to turn 21 ― not so he could start drinking, but rather distilling. Being 6th generation distiller with Beam blood coursing through his veins, as well as growing up in the heart of Kentucky, it was only natural. He worked for years as a Master Distiller, then started bottling his very own bourbon as gifts for family and friends after retiring. In 1988 he released the first batch of his namesake Booker’s Bourbon to the public, coining the phrase "small batch" along the way. Today Booker's is run by his son Fred and operates under the Jim Beam distillery. "Fred, make sure they don't mess with my Booker's," is what he requested of his son at his retirement.

Bruichladdich Octomore 07.1 Scottish Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky

About Bruichladdich Octomore 07.1 Scottish Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Inspired by an entrepreneurial flair and a youthful enthusiasm, the Harvey brothers began construction of the Bruichladdich (pronounced brook-laddie or broo-lah-dee) Distillery in 1881. The brothers were descendants of a dynastic whisky family — their ancestors had already owned distilleries in Scotland for over a century. Today, Bruichladdich Distillery (Bruichladdich means "rocky shore" in ancient Gaelic) remains situated on the shores of Loch Indaal on the island of Islay, and continues to use much of the original equipment installed by the Harvey brothers.

The modern Bruichladdich Distillery is known as the most experimental and adventurous of the Scottish distilleries, and the Bruichladdich Octomore Series represents a singularly unique expression in the world of Scotch whisky.

Bruichladdich Octomore 7.1 is the distillery’s final release under Master Distiller Jim McEwan’s tenure. The whisky takes its name from Octomore Farm, a farm situated high above the village of Port Charlotte, just two miles away from Bruichladdich Distillery (the farm provides all of the barley used to create the whisky). Harvested from mainland Scotland, the barley used in this release is then malted before being peated to an absurdly high 208 phenol parts per million, making it one of the peatiest whiskies in the world.

After the barley has been peated, it is mashed using water drawn from the Bruichladdich loch. The water is soft and devoid of minerality, which makes it ideal for mashing and fermenting the barley. Following fermentation, the wash is twice distilled through Bruichladdich's 130 year-old, 20-foot tall, diamond-shaped stills. The Victorian-era stills produce whisky that is notably floral and elegant. "We have a distillery," says Jim McEwan, the master distiller at Bruichladdich, "and we know how to use it."

Once the whisky has been distilled, it is matured for five years in American oak before being bottled at 119 proof without the use of chill filtration or artificial coloring. As a result, Bruichladdich Octomore 7.1 has a sandy color, with aromas of sea spray, caramel, lemon peel and tobacco. The palate is filled with bright notes of peach, citrus fruits and honey, and is complemented by heavier notes of chimney smoke and leather. The peat is evident on the finish, with bold flavors coming together for a long, memorable sensation.

“The feeling is of long summer nights turning cooler as autumn approaches. This dram will transport you to Islay, to watch the sun setting over the sea while breathing in the peat smoke hanging in the air,” says McEwan.

About Mortlach 70 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated in the heart of the Speyside region of Scotland, Dufftown is known as the Whisky Capital of the World. The village, which produces more malt whisky than any other town in Scotland, is home to seven distilleries, the oldest of which is Mortlach Distillery.

Mortlach Distillery was founded in 1823 by James Findlater, together with his friends Alexander Gordon and James Macintosh. In 1831, however, Findlater sold the distillery to John Robertson for the paltry sum of £270. In 1837, it was sold again to John and James Grant, who dismantled the distilling equipment and shuttered the doors to the distillery. For the next two decades, the building was used first as a brewery, and then, rather curiously, a church. In 1851, however, the distillery began producing whisky once more. Even at the time, it was an impressive distillery, according to the Wine & Spirits Trade Record. The distillery had two still-houses: “In one there are three old-fashioned stills, in the other there are three larger stills, installed in 1897.” The distillery also had “four gigantic malt floors, and the largest mash tun in the district."

In 1964, the distillery was largely rebuilt and today, houses a unique configuration of six stills. The stills — three wash stills and three spirit stills — are each different shapes and sizes (one still is nicknamed “Wee Witchie” because it is shaped like a witch's cap), and aren't paired together. This unusual configuration, together with the partial triple distillation method used at Mortlach Distillery, produces a whisky that is full-bodied and meaty.

Mortlach 70 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of Gordon & MacPhail’s “Generations” label, and was first put into the cask on October 15, 1938 by John Urquhart, the grandfather of Gordon & MacPhail Joint Managing Directors, David and Michael Urquhart. Matured in a Spanish oak, ex-bodega sherry hogshead cask, the whisky was bottled exactly 70 years later, yielding 54 full-size bottles at cask strength (46.1% ABV).

“This is a very special day for us, one we’ve literally been anticipating for generations. Our family has been in the whisky business for a long time, with each generation building and handing on a lifetime’s expertise to the next,” say David and Michael Urquhart.

Mortlach 70 has a delicate aroma of rosewood, black cherries, dates and licorice. The palate is fresh, with starburst notes marrying elegantly with sherried oak and peat smoke, and leads to a supple finish accented by big notes of peaches, saddle leather and candlewax.

About Highland Park 1968 Orcadian Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated in the Orkney archipelago in Northern Scotland, Highland Park Distillery was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson. The name of the distillery is derived not from the region of Scotland known as The Highlands — the Orkney islands are not a part of The Highlands — but rather from the region known as High Park, where the distillery was founded.

Today, over two centuries after its founding, Highland Park Distillery remains one of the few Scottish distilleries that continues to hand-turn, malt, and peat its own barley. “You have to be careful here on the malting floor,” says Eric Tait, Highland Park's Maltman. “You find it can get a wee bit slippery underneath. I have to turn the malt every eight hours to prevent the roots getting tangled and to get it all aerated properly. The airing also helps it to grow. The malt will be on the floor for seven days and I'm running five floors at the moment.”

After malting the barley, Highland Park Distillery smokes it using peat sourced from Hobbister Moor, a peat bog located approximately seven miles from the distillery. Hobbister Moor peat is sourced from floral heather bushes, which burn hotter and cleaner than the grassy peats of Islay. In addition, the peat sourced from Hobbister Moor has greater derivatives of carbohydrates and a lower concentration of lignin than peat from Islay, giving Highland Park's peat a unique chemical fingerprint. The peat sourced from Hobbister Moor is “absolutely fundamental” in understanding the flavor of Highland Park Whisky, says Russell Anderson, the distillery manager. Together with Orkney's unique environment (the temperate, moist climate of the archipelago results in an even maturation process), the peat gives Highland Park Whisky its traditional malty, coastal flavors tempered by just a subtle touch of smoke.

Highland Park 1968 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the second release in the esteemed Orcadian Vintage series. Crafted from just eight hogshead barrels which were previously used for maturing Oloroso Sherry, the whisky was bottled in 2009, allowing four decades of weather on the Orkney Islands to exert its influence over the whisky. With its aromatic, heather-infused peat flavor, Highland Park 1968 represents a unique combination of smoky and sweet that has not p reviously been seen from Highland Park.

Highland Park 1968 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a bright, clean aroma of straw and salty sea air, which leads to a fruit-forward palate filled with lemon tart, plums, honey, cloves and just a hint of oak. The finish is equally compelling, with accents of toasted marshmallows and coconuts, as well as refreshing mint.

Only 1,550 bottles (at 91.2 proof) of this magnificent whisky, which earned 93 points from Whisky Advocate, were ever made. Pick up a bottle today!

About Russell's Reserve 1998 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Back in 1998, Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie — now joint master distiller of Wild Turkey — decided to lay a select few barrels (23 to be exact) down to rest, intending to save them for a special occasion. At that point, Jimmy had spent 45 years at the distillery, and it was presumed he would retire later that year. Fate had other plans in store, however, and today Jimmy Russell remains Wild Turkey’s joint master distiller with 61 years of experience under his belt.

In 2014, Eddie was checking on these special barrels when he noticed they were evaporating much quicker than anticipated. He shared some samples with his father, and the duo decided not to wait: they’d found something spectacular and wanted to share it with the world immediately.

“Typically, a bourbon this old picks up a lot of flavor from the barrel and can taste quite woody and dry. We like to retain the caramel, vanilla and fruity notes in our whiskies and this particular liquid seemed to reach a sweet spot around the 15 year mark,” says Eddie. “It was important for us to stop the aging before those less desirable flavors took over the overall profile of the bourbon. I guess I am going to have to find another bourbon to celebrate Jimmy’s retirement… if that ever happens.”

About Russell's Reserve

Following the end of the American Civil War, the Ripy Brothers returned to their native state of Kentucky and, together, opened a distillery on the slopes of a hill in Lawrenceburg. The distillery operated continuously for nearly fifty years until the 18th Amendment, which prohibited the sale of alcohol in the United States, was ratified. Following the end of Prohibition, the Ripy Brothers Distillery was reopened, and a distillery executive named Thomas McCarthy took samples of maturing whiskey from the distillery on a turkey-hunting trip with a group of friends. The following year, his friends asked him to bring "some of that wild turkey whiskey" on their next hunting trip, and the distillery was renamed Wild Turkey. Since 1954, Wild Turkey Distillery has been operating under the tutelage of Master Distiller Jimmy Russell. "I've never been drunk," says Russell, who is a genuine bourbon aristocrat and a living legend in the business, "but I love my work. People tell me, "I hate to get up and go to work," he says. "I go seven days a week. You know, on Saturdays and Sundays, I may go out there and sit around for an hour or so."

About Wild Turkey Master's Keep 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Wild Turkey Master’s Keep 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the oldest whiskey ever released by Wild Turkey, and the first to be released since Eddie Russell joined his father as Master Distiller earlier in 2015. Distilled in 1997, when Wild Turkey encountered a surplus of bourbon and shortage of space, Eddie decided to move the bourbon that would become Master’s Keep to a stone warehouse 200 miles away. After 17 years, Eddie believed the barrels had reached their peak flavor, and transported them back to Wild Turkey’s wooden warehouses before bottling them. Interestingly, the bourbon had fallen to 86.8 proof, the cask strength at which it was then bottled.

“Master’s Keep is the result of a lot of experimentation, patience and faith,” says Eddie Russell.

As a result of this unique aging process, Wild Turkey Master’s Keep 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has a beautiful auburn color and aroma of caramel, vanilla, peaches, apricots and burnt sugar. The palate reveals big flavors of butterscotch, baking spices, blueberry pancakes and fresh maple, and leads to a refined finish marked by superb notes of citrus and toasted oak.

This tremendous bourbon won’t last long — be sure to pick up a bottle today!

"I was born and raised in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky," says Jimmy, "which was a small community when I was growing up, but there were four bourbon distilleries here, and you had families working all the distilleries. You wanted to get in the business. My grandfather and my father, me, and now my son, we've all been in the business."

About Prometheus 26 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Cache 1

Prometheus 26 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a unique effort spearheaded by Bespoke Spirits and the Glasgow Distillery Co. The idea for Prometheus was born when Glasgow CEO Liam Hughes chanced upon an incredible batch of whisky combining the the smoky influence of peated barley with the zesty and floral notes typical of Speyside. Hughes decided to bottle the whisky but keep its origins a secret. We do know, however, that the amazing whisky is a reborn single malt, aged 26 years and finished in hand-crafted sherry casks (it’s rumored the whisky comes from Macallan… but you didn’t hear it from us!).

Bottled at 94 proof, Prometheus 26 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a rich amber color and aroma of butterscotch, warm heather, orange peel and smoky charcoal. The palate is absolutely dazzling, with notes of creme brulee, Madagascan vanilla and dark chocolate, fruitcake, honey and roasted nuts, and leads to a restrained yet elegant finish.

About Prometheus

One of the great Titans of Greek mythology Prometheus was renowned for his strength, passion and charisma. Most memorably, he gave man one of earth's greatest gifts: fire. In fact, when an angered Zeus took fire away from man, Prometheus rebelled against the leader of Greek gods and captured a flame from Mount Olympus, carrying it back to man hidden in a fennel sack.

Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

About Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated on the southern coast of Islay, Laphroaig (pronounced La-froyg) Distillery was founded nearly two centuries ago by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The distillery derives its name from the ancient Gaelic word "lag"(meaning hollow) and the ancient Norse word "vik" (meaning bay), which refers to its location on the shores of Loch Laphroaig.

In 1836, Donald Johnston offered his brother £350 for his interests the distillery, and ultimately became the sole proprietor of Laphroaig Distillery. For over a century, the distillery would remain in the hands of one of Johnston's descendants. In 1954, however, Ian Hunter passed away childless and bequeathed the distillery to Bessie Williamson, a secretary that had been working at the distillery for two decades. Hunter was incredibly protective of the distillery — while he slowly revealed its secrets to Williamson after she had earned his trust, Hunter prevented a cooper who was employed at the distillery from publishing his memoirs because they described the workings of the distillery in too great a detail.

Laphroaig Single Malt Whisky is one of the most flavorful and intense whiskies made anywhere in the world. During Prohibition, it was one of the few whiskies still legally imported into the United States, as it was considered a medicinal spirit. Laphroaig Single Malt is made from the finest Scottish barley, which is then malted at the distillery and smoked over a peat flame. Unlike other distilleries which source peat from the Scottish mainland, the peat used to smoke Laphroaig barley is made of from the heather, mosses and lichens of Islay and adds a distinct iodine-like flavor to the whisky.

After the barley has been malted and peated, it is fermented before being twice-distilled through Laphroaig's copper-pot stills. The unique stills have an usually flat base and flat surfaces, which lends to the overall intensity of the whisky. After the whisky has been distilled, it is aged in seasoned oak barrels, which are re-charred prior to being filled. The re-charring process caramelizes the remaining sugars in the barrel, and adds slightly sweet notes of vanilla and nutty dough to the whisky.

Originally launched in the 1980s, Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky quickly became a fan favorite, with popularity culminating in 2000 when it was chosen by the Prince of Wales for the “Erskine Charity Bottling”. While the 15 year old expression was eventually replaced by Laphroaig’s now-standard 18 year old, in honor of the distillery’s bicentennial in 2015, Laphroaig has re released a special 200th Anniversary Edition of the Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Crafted in the exact same fashion as it was 30 years ago, Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has an initial aroma of mint and grapefruit, as well as saltwater, peat smoke and apple orchards. On the palate, the whisky is dry and peppery, with touches of leather and tobacco leading to a mellow finish that’s underpinned by subtle notes of peat, almonds and dates.

Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was pre-released to the distillery’s 650,000 “Friends of Laphroaig” earlier this year, but sold out within hours. Pick up a bottle on Caskers today!

About Port Ellen 1983 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Port Ellen 1983 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (Duncan Taylor Bottling) was distilled at Port Ellen in 1983, making it some of the last whisky ever produced at the distillery (Port Ellen was mothballed later that year). Aged for 30 years and bottled at cask strength (104 proof), this rare bottling is uncut, unfiltered and encased in a wooden tantalus worthy of the spirit it contains.

This exceptional whisky has a golden wheat hue and an aroma of caramel, peat bogs, hay and fresh apples. The palate is at once light and full of character, with notes of peaches, almonds and mint giving way to a smooth, dry finish characterized by raisins, marmalade and breakfast cake.

Only a few of these bottles will ever be made available for purchase — be sure to pick one up today!

About Port Ellen

Situated along the Kildalton coast on the island of Islay, Port Ellen Distillery was founded in 1825 by Alexander Ker Mackay. At the time, the distillery became renown for its innovative and experimental techniques: it was the first distillery to incorporate Septimus Fox's spirit safe design into its distillation process, and was one of the first distilleries to trade directly with the United States.

Over the course of the 20th century, however, the distillery changed hands numerous times. In 1966, Port Ellen Distillery was reopened (it had been forced to close its doors as a result of Prohibition) and refurbished with four new stills heated by a mechanical coal stoker system. Although the distillery was forced to close its doors again in 1983 as a result of slumping demand, the whisky distilled in the 17 years between its re-opening and final closure has acquired a reputation as some of the finest to have been made on Islay in that time.
