About Bardstown Bourbon "Discovery Series" #4 Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Located in the middle of a cornfield in the heart of Bourbon Country, Bardstown Bourbon Company brings together art and science, tradition and innovation, and old wisdom and new ideas. The company, founded in 2014 by Peter Loftin, David Mandell, Daniel Linde and Garnett Black, is one of the country's most technically advanced and sophisticated distilleries. While respecting the art and tradition of bourbon making, the company also takes full advantage of modern technology. In its pursuit of producing a high-quality bourbon whiskey distillate, Bardstown Bourbon Company uses a highly automated, state-of-the-art system, which provides unmatched and unprecedented control of the whiskey production process. This first-of-its-kind system tracks and displays key data points, and allows the distillers to analyze all captured data without limits. The innovative distillery, which is part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, produces custom rye, whiskey and bourbon, and runs a one-of-a-kind Collaborative Distilling Program, which brings together some of the industry's most experienced distillers.

The distillery’s team, headed by Master Distiller Steve Nally, who has over 40 years of experience in the spirits industry and is a member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, works alongside customers and uses sophisticated technology to create some of the finest whiskeys and bourbons. The company produces nearly 40 unique mash bills, including those used for prominent brands such as Jefferson’s, High West, Belle Meade, Hirs ch, Calumet, James E. Pepper, and Cyrus Noble. Bardstown Bourbon Company is one of the top 10 US whiskey distilleries by capacity, and produces 110,000 barrels per year.

Bardstown Discovery Series #4 is a small-batch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey made from three aged bourbons. This smooth and unique expression is a blend of a high-rye 13 year old Kentucky bourbon, and a 15 year old and a 10 year old Kentucky bourbon.

About Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Very Fine Rare Bourbon

Woodford Reserve’s Distillery houses an impressive 500-foot-long gravity-fed barrel run, along with their iconic copper pot stills, and 100-year-old cypress wood fermenters. Their facility also has one of the only heat cycled barrelhouses in the world. An impressive mechanism that gives Woodford Reserve its color and signature flavor. Produced under the Brown-Forman Corporation, Woodford Reserve Bourbons are premium spirits crafted in small batches and aged in new char oak barrels. This artisanal process allows them to "craft using all five sources of bourbon flavor, giving it its distinct taste and crisp, clean finish."

The 15th release in Woodford's Master's Collection is a turning point for the series, shifting the focus to the innovation of Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. The expression includes barrels as old as 17 years, which is when Morris took up the mantle as Master Distiller. The limited-edition release is bottled at 90.4 proof and has a rich profile that is bound to please fans of Woodford Reserve and finely-aged bourbon in general.

About Woodford Reserve

The Woodford Reserve Distillery sits on what was once an old Distillery founded by Elijah and his son, Oscar Pepper, in the 1800s. Years later, under the stewardship of Oscar and Master Distiller James Crow, their distillery reformed and modernized producing whiskey in the United States — the distillery revolutionized the concepts of sour mash and yeast propagation.

Today, the distillery is among Kentucky's oldest and smallest bourbon distilleries. Nestled in the heart of the Commonwealth's thoroughbred country, it's the only place you'll find bourbon and horses maturing side by side. It's also one of a handful of spirits companies in the world to own a cooperage and craft its barrels, allowing for ultimate precision when creating exact toast and char specifications.

About Jameson Bow Street 18 Year Old Batch 2 Irish Whiskey

Jameson Bow Street 18 Years is a special blend of rare pot still and grain Irish whiskeys produced at the Midleton distillery, launched in 2018. After ageing in American bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry butts for 18 years, these whiskeys are married together and spend their final finishing period at the original Jameson Distillery Bow Street, in the warehouse that can only hold 84 casks. This is the brand’s rarest release, bottled once per year at cask strength.

About Jameson

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more iconic name in the Irish whiskey world than "Jameson". The Jameson tradition dates all the way back to 1740, when John Jameson was born into a family whose motto, "Sine Metu"("Without Fear"), was earned through the family's courage in fighting pirates on the high seas during the 1500s.

John Jameson himself was a living embodiment of Sine Metu, and his ancestors' bravery inspired in John a boldness that led him not only to open his own distillery in the latter 18th century but also to pioneer the technique of triple-distilling whiskey — now the gold standard in the Irish whiskey industry. John Jameson lived to be 83 — an impressive feat for someone born in the 18th century — and his descendants John II, John III, and John IV all honored his legacy by leading the distillery well into the 20th century.

About Irish Whiskey

Contrary to popular belief that Scots invented whisk(e)y, Irish whiskey was mentioned almost a century before its Scottish brother.

Its origin comes from the perfume distilling monks who decided to tweak the recipe a bit, creating Irish whiskey.

Irish whiskey doesn’t have a lot of rules and regulations to be considered “pure” and can be made with various grains and processes, as long as it is aged for at least three years in wooden casks and has a max ABV of 94.8%.

About Four Gate Outer Loop Orbit Batch 2 Bourbon Whiskey

Four Gate Whiskey Company started releasing its small-batch expressions with innovative finishes in 2019, gaining much critical acclaim from the start. Batches 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 all received Whisky Advocate scores of 90 points or higher, and various well-regarded writers and online reviewers named batches 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 amongst the top 10 American whiskeys of 2019 and 2020.

Their second release Outer Loop Orbit is no exception. After looking at and smelling casks together with William Hornaday at Kelvin Cooperage, Straub and D'Antoni picked what were originally orange curaçao barrels that a local distiller used to finish a batch of botanical gin. The curaçao's sticky sweetness and gin's sharpness immediately reminded them of the famous tangy drink the astronaut John Glenn drank in the 80s and they thought it would be beautifully complemented with a bourbon. A blend of 5.5YO Kentucky Straight Bourbon and a 12YO High-Rye Kentucky Straight Bourbon was put to rest for a month and the result was mind-blowing. Bottled at 120.3 proof, non-chill filtered and with only 2,402 bottles released, this bourbon has been described as out of this world. It owes its name to the Outer Loop street in Louisville where Kelvin Cooperage is located and to John Glenn who was the first American to orbit the Earth.

Four Gate Whiskey Company’s Release #4, Split Stave™ by Kelvin is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in innovative Split Stave™ casks designed and produced exclusively for Four Gate by Kelvin Cooperage. The casks for this release were built by breaking down a series of medium toast casks, a series of #2 char casks, and a series of #4 char casks, and reassembling them, alternating toasted staves and #2 char staves on some barrels, and toasted and #4 char staves on others. These barrels were then filled with a blend of a 5.5-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon and a 12-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, and left to rest for five months. The whiskey was bottled uncut and unfiltered at 115.6 proof. Only 2,700 bottles of this inaugural Split Stave™ by Kelvin release were produced.

Four Gate Whiskey Company’s Release #6, The Kelvin Collaboration II, is a 12-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon finished in cognac and rum casks. This expression is a follow-up on their very first release of a barrel finished whiskey, The Kelvin Collaboration from April 2019, which was extremely well received. Kelvin Cooperage acquired dark rum barrels from the same rum distillery as the barrels used to finish batch 1. The underlying bourbon is made from a mash bill of 74% corn, 18% rye and 8% malted barley. Adding a new twist, Straub and D’Antoni created a sweet and smoky expression that was named Barrel-Finished Whiskey of the Year 2020 by Fred Minnick. 2,574 bottles were produced at 126.4 proof.

Release #7, River Kelvin Rye, is Four Gate Whiskey Company’s first ever rye. After they finally found straight rye that met their high standards, Straub and D’Antoni selected the best barrels of 7-year-old Indiana straight rye whiskey and blended them, creating a spicy and yet fruit-forward whiskey for a refreshing sip. This batch of the Indiana rye, made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, is presented without barrel finishing and bottled at 113.2 proof. Even though the cooperage was not involved in the making of this release, Four Gate still paid homage to it with the name. Only 1,484 bottles of this delicious sipping whiskey were made.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.

Sweet fruits, fortified wine, molasses, and vanilla on the nose introduce the underlying bourbon and rum finish on the palate, with traditional rye-bourbon spice and dark burnt brown sugars on the periphery. The finish is medium-short, dry and sherry-forward, with a pepper spice that lingers a bit on the rear palate.

About Four Gate Ruby Rye Springs Batch 11 Rye Whiskey

Four Gate Whiskey Company started releasing its small-batch expressions with innovative finishes in 2019, gaining much critical acclaim from the start. Batches 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 all received Whisky Advocate scores of 90 points or higher, and various well-regarded writers and online reviewers named batches 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 amongst the top 10 American whiskeys of 2019 and 2020.

Four Gate Whiskey Company’s Release #11, Ruby Rye Springs, is a 7-year straight rye whiskey finished in ruby port-rum casks. Following batches 7 and 10, this is the third presentation of the same underlying rye whiskey made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. This time, the Indiana-sourced straight rye was finished for forty-two days in ruby port-rum casks. The secondary casks were originally used to mature ruby port, a sweet and bright style of port wine, and after that they were used to age a blend of rums by Virago Spirits in Richmond, VA, imparting them with a lush molasses sweetness that pairs excellently with the bright red fruit of the ruby port. Only 1,444 bottles were produced at 113.4 proof.

About Four Gate Whiskey Company

In 2018 Bill Straub and Bob D'Antoni, both whiskey enthusiasts, founded the Four Gate Whiskey Company in Kentucky and launched their mission to release extra small batches of unique combinations of whiskey and finish barrels. Specializing in sourced whiskey blends and partnering with Kelvin Cooperage, a family-owned barrel supplier founded in 1963 in Scotland and currently based in Louisville, the combinations of quality whiskey blends and used barrels they put together are truly ecclectic. From bourbon finished in cognac and dark rum casks to split stave casks, there is really no idea too wild for Four Gate and they make it work.

The nose has aromas of fruit cake, tart gum drops, lemon and orange zest, and spicy rye. A sweet tart red berry note greets the tip of the tongue, and a spicy black pepper flows down the center palate, with raspberries and blueberries on the periphery and a hint of citrus. The medium-to-long finish is dominated by black pepper and sweet red fruits at the start, with sweet molasses rounding out the viscous mouthfeel.

About Dingle

Two hundred years ago, there were over a hundred officially recognized distilleries in Ireland. Today there are less than ten. Founded as Ireland’s first artisan distillery, Dingle takes its name from the town in which it is located, where tourists flock to visit Europe’s westernmost human settlement. As of 2012, an old sawmill was converted into a distillery, where Dingle marries Ireland’s tradition of independent distilling with innovative processes only feasible for small batch producers.

Dingle’s humid climate with cool gulf stream breezes is considered ideal for spirit distillation. When restaurateur Oliver Hughes decided to open Irleand’s first artisan distillery, he wanted to capture the terroir of Kerry County. In order to do so, Hughes bought traditional pot still designed by Master Distiller John McDougall. He affectionately named the hand beaten copper pot still Oisin, and immediately began producing Ireland’s first small batch vodka, gin and whiskey.
